This section of our website is focused on the curriculum we offer at Delves Lane Primary School. It provides an overview of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Curriculum offer for children in Years 1 to 6. The curriculum is differentiated accordingly to meet the needs of all pupils.
Please find information related to how we deliver our curriculum below. If you have any additional questions, feel free to see your child’s class teacher or Mr. McMeiken
How do we deliver our curriculum at Delves Lane and why?
As a rights respecting school, we believe that every child is entitled to an outstanding education (Article 28). At Delves Lane Primary School, we believe in providing a broad and balanced curriculum which is firmly rooted in rich learning experiences and enrichment. By taking this approach, we allow our children to develop knowledge, skills and talents in all areas; providing children with the tools necessary for life in modern Britain and enabling them to reach their full potential (Article 29). The Local area and children’s own community, its heritage and traditions are an integral part of the curriculum we offer. We frequently engage with the local community to develop social, moral, spiritual and cultural aspects of learning.
At Delves Lane Primary School, we are determined that all children will be able to read and we view reading as a ‘golden thread’ which is woven throughout the entirety of the curriculum as is it a necessary skill required to access materials in all subjects. Because of this, we prioritise the teaching and learning of reading and phonics, particularly with younger children as this will allow them to achieve their full potential. As children move into, and through Key Stage 2, this reading ethos continues and children are given the opportunity to use and apply their reading skills in a broad range of context across all areas of the National Curriculum. For further information on the teaching and phonics, please see the reading and phonics section of this website.
At Delves Lane Primary School, we believe in giving our children the best start in life and every opportunity to move into any field of employment they desire. With this in mind, we believe that it is essential that children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum to develop the knowledge and skills that they will need to succeed in the wider world. We have developed our own subject-driven approach to teaching and learning in the foundation subjects. All subjects have been sequentially mapped, from Early years to Year 6, to ensure that children’s knowledge, skills and understanding of key concepts is built upon in appropriate, manageable steps and that children are given appropriate opportunity to revisit key aspects of their learning in order to support their retention.

At Delves Lane Primary School we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers.
