Mobile Phone Contract

18th September 2020 By Nick Jones

Dear  parents and carers,

In the current climate, we recognise that more parents will be wanting their children to be able to walk home themselves and reduce adults at the school gates. Some of you may want your children to bring a mobile phone with them for their walk home. For all KS2 children who wish to bring a mobile phone to school, we have a Mobile Phone Contract. This has been updated to reflect the current Corona-virus situation. Please read the rules of the contract in full with your child then sign and return the completed document to the office. If you require a copy printed and sent out, please contact the office at delveslaneprimary@durhamlearning.net

Thank you for your cooperation,

Mental Health Awareness Week

17th May 2020 By Nick Jones

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week falls this week, 18-24 May. Of all times, this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is the most pertinent. In this tough time; where our opportunities to see friends, families and loved ones are limited and uncertainties reign, it is crucial that we take care of our own mental health and acknowledge the challenges that we all face. This year’s theme is kindness. We must think about kindness to ourselves and to others.

Please take time this week to consider your own mental health and be kind to yourselves. It is far too easy to put undue pressures on ourselves and we owe it to ourselves in these times to look after our own well-being.

Being kind to ourselves enables us to be kind to others. The kindness we show can range from tiny daily acts to more significant ones. Whatever the act, kindness can make a big difference. The below website is full of resources and ways for you to get involved or simply to keep yourself healthy.

https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week

Whatever you choose to do this week, remember: Mental Health matters, so #Bekind.

Thank you, as ever for the kindness you show to us and to one another. We are proud to be a part of our community.

Stay safe,

DLPS 🌈

Mr Jones DEAR sessions (Audiobooks for your children)

5th May 2020 By Nick Jones

Hi all,
I have been recording some videos of books to share with my class as part of their daily timetable. Parents have suggested that I share these on Facebook, so please see below the links to the chapters so far. I will aim to ‘release’ a chapter on the Facebook page each day. Occasionally there may be additional picture books. If you have any requests, please leave a comment.
Best wishes,
Mr Jones

Oak National Academy

30th April 2020 By Nick Jones

Oak National Academy

The Oak National Academy is a website, similar to BBC Bitesize, in that it is a resource bank full of lessons, presentations and activities. Your children’s teachers may choose to refer to this in your recommended weekly timetable. Feel free to browse the website for lessons beyond those we send home, following your child’s interests.

Each ‘lesson’ comes with quizzes, instructional videos and activities to go alongside. These activities are not necessarily interactive, so having a pencil and paper to hand will be helpful! The lessons have been prepared by teachers around the country, so the style and content of each lesson will vary between year groups and subjects.

The National Academy has three options for using it:

  1. Following links provided by your teacher in your weekly timetable if this is their recommended resource.
  2. Following the daily schedule from the National Academy website for your year group. If you are choosing your own working style, this may provide an alternative structure.
  3. Searching by subject for lessons and activities that capture your children’s interests. If you are choosing to do your own curriculum, this can still be used as a more open-ended resource for ideas.

Whichever way you choose to use this resource, we hope it helps you all at home.

Stay safe,

DLPS
